Barcelona
As you scroll through this gallery, I want you to look past the "tourist" aspect of the architecture and look at the science of safety:
The Ribcages: Notice my obsession with the heavy, sweeping brick catenary arches of Casa Milà's attic and the cave-like crypt of Colònia Güell. My brain was actively seeking Refuge and Geborgenheit - that deep, primal feeling of being held and concealed from overhead threats.
The Grid: You'll see sweeping, overwhelming shots of the dense city skyline taken from high above. That is extreme Prospect, our evolutionary need to scan the horizon to see what's coming (perhaps my brain looking nervously toward Turkey).
The Light: Pay attention to the high-contrast shadows and glowing stained glass. When we are jet-lagged and anxious, our retinas hunt for Zeitgebers (time-givers) to anchor our circadian rhythms and tell our pineal glands what time it is.
These aren't just photos of famous Spanish landmarks. They are the field notes of a body looking for a space that didn't demand perfection. A space that just let an animal rest.
Take a breath, drop your shoulders, and enjoy the visual quiet.
Stay safe, stay froh.
